Travel by bus

Using a bus when you visit the Lake District gives you the opportunity to see so much more. There are a series of leaflets on the most scenic bus journeys in the county, known as give the driver a break. Tickets from these journeys also entitle the traveller to discount in certain locations.

 

Travel by train

You can travel the coastline of Cumbria from Barrow-in-Furness in the south to Carlisle in the north by train. If you fancy making it a full loop the West Coast main line will let you complete the journey, just ask for a Round Robin ticket or visit www.northernrail.org. For travel between Carlisle and Penrith visit Virgin trains www.virgintrains.co.uk and First Transpennine Express www.tpexpress.co.uk will take you from the mainline at Oxenholme to Windermere.

 

Travel by boat

A Lake cruise is a great way to enjoy the countryside or as a mode of travel.  You can sail the length of Ullswater ond Windermere or take a round tip on Derwentwater and Coniston.
